Group development is part of the foundation of effective group work practice. Without such an understanding, the group leader will have difficulty facilitating the development of the group as an agent of therapeutic change.

This is text will help group leaders recognize the stages of group development and help them understand the importance of diversity and “use-of-self” in group processes. A variety of practice settings are used to demonstrate the relevance of group treatment.
